This coming Monday, March 18, Paulette Insall will be teaching a class in acrylic painting at her studio in Portland, Oregon.  If you are not familiar with Paulette, take a look at her blog, Poetic Splashes of Joyful Light.  Her class, One Word Tree has two spots left.  Come join us for a few hours of fun, food and inspiration.  Hope to see you there!

Free Style Embroidery class

Standard

I’ve been busy working with paper the past few months and decided it was time to start something new with fabric and thread, something that I haven’t done in years – create a sampler.

I just signed up for Teresa McFayden’s latest e-zine class called Free Style Embroidery.  I love Teresa’s style, her choice of colors and her whimsical way of stitching.  If you love hand stitching, consider signing up for this – I bet you won’t be disappointed.  See you in class.

Remains of the Day Journal

Standard

Woohoo – I finished up the first journal in Mary Ann Moss’ on line class, Remains of the Day.  You can view the other artist participant journals here.

I created a quick video on Vimeo of my completed journal.

The journal cover was sewn using quilt blocks for the front and wool felt for the inside and then free motion stitched. The journal pages are created with scrapbook paper, vintage music sheets, children’s book pages, transparencies, maps, tags and tidbits from my stash. The pages measure approximately 5.5 inches by 6.5 inches. There are two signatures with 12 pages each, hand sewn into the cover.

I wish you a Happy New Year!  Keep it simple!

Another Journal started

Standard

Here is the cover that I created for Mary Ann Moss’  Remains of the Day on-line journal class.

The cover was created from some old quilt blocks that I had made from a stash of Kaffe Fassett fabric.  The tie is a strip from that same fabric with silk sari yarn sewn on for texture.

Here are some of the signatures that I have sewn.  I’ll be adding more paper tid-bits and some fabric scraps to them before they are sewn into the cover.

And here is my workhorse!  This sewing machine is over 50 years old and runs perfectly.  It  was a gift to my mom.  I started sewing with it when I was 7.  It is an old and dear friend and I plan to give it to my daughter some day.

Now back to sewing papers.  Keep it simple.
