Have you ever looked at a piece of art and known immediately who the artist was? Artists like Lynne Perrella, Karen Michel, Teesha Moore, Beryl Taylor, Anne Bagby, Sherrill Kahn, Michael deMeng, Claudine Hellmuth and the list goes on and on. While you were reading those names, did you see their artwork in your mind? The alphabet letters from Lynne, the bird and heart from Karen, the journal entries from Teesha, the fabric and fibers of Beryl, the clowns from Anne, the rich colors of Sherrill, the metal collages from Michael and the caricatures from Claudine.
What you have experienced is the soul or “signature” of the artist coming through in their work.
One of my goals in 2008 is to search for my own “signature” within this fabulous world of art. Won’t you join me on this adventure?
I had no idea you were such a talented artist. All of this is so beautiful. Wish you all success in finding your signature style.
This is such a great question, I just had to reply. I have also been thinking of this topic a lot. I am beginning to believe that over time your signature is revealed in your choice of materials, an image you love and use repeatedly or a color palette you favour. Love your idea to make notes – I have started keeping a list of things that I like and use a lot: geometric shapes, objects over eyes, rich colours, layers of text that can’t be deciphered, etc… Thanks for posing such a great question! I will be a regular reader of your blog and look forward to what else you share with us.
Awesome blog and great question.
Way to go Marci!!! Awesome blog! I’ll be checking in on ya!

I love this time of year when the calendar is still clear and I feel like I can do anything! Making time for art every week is at the top of my resolutions this year, and I, too, hope to be able to find my signature! I love the put your “heART into it” concept, and hope to put my heart on paper or canvas or whatever a lot this year! Happy New Year
i agree–one must find their signature….if you get some direction, please share, cause I don’t know mine either!
