This time of year I bake a lot of goodies for Christmas. Cookies, cakes, pies, puddings, anything sweet will do. Yesterday I made a Chocolate Nut Fruitcake. I know what some of you are thinking, “Fruitcake, yikes I grew up with that and it was terrible!” Well, welcome to the new world of fruitcake. This one is spectacular! I found the recipe in the December issue of Better Homes & Gardens. It was one of the prize tested recipes by Mary Beth Mandola in Houston, Texas. (the pic below is from BH&G)
The fruitcake has been cut and wrapped into individual slices and will be sold at our annual fundraiser Bake Sale for our local Food Bank. Here is a pic of the individual wrapped pieces.
Give fruitcake another chance – you may like it.
More goodie recipes to follow later in the week. Merry Christmas!!!
I love fruitcake. My Dad an I used to make it every Christmas. I had forgot about that till I read your post. Thanks for the memory, also your fruitcake looks great! Yum!
I’ve tried so hard to like fruitcake…but it just ain’t happenin’. I like everything in it (except those green dried fruit thingies) but once the good ingredients get all smooshed together….nah, not so much. lol I will say it’s beautiful, though, and I hope it sells well to all those fruitcake lovers out there.
Peace & Love,
~Barb~
